In this series we are going to travel around Tunisia and say what we found to be most enjoyable and worthwhile. We start with the little beach resort of Hammamet.
HAMMAMET.
Hammamet is an ideal place to start your trip to Tunisia, the best time to visit being during the summer months. The best attractions here are the sandy beach with a calm sea to bathe in, and the charm of the old part of town filled with little shops. The place is undoubtedly a tourist resort, but a very attractive one, not being over developed. Its a great place to relax and chill out for a week, taking it easy but also taking a few trips out of town. We looked at Iberostar Waves hotel right on the beach and thought it was fabulous; however their policy is not to take pets so we eliminated it. If you are travelling without a pet, we are confident to recommend it and you can book here:

We ended up staying in a wonderful hotel which is pet friendly: the Golden Tulip President. Its got a good quality all inclusive deal with great food. Its right on the beach and you can book here: https://tripadvisor.tpk.mx/p2IY7Uwn Life moves slowly in the countryside outside of Hammamet.

There are many beautiful flowers in Tunisia. We love this bouganvilla in Hammamet.

In the market in Hammamet and in any town of Tunisia, you will find an array of fresh spices for sale, a great lightweight product to take home with you.

In Hammamet weaving carpets is a cottage industry. You are sure to be invited into carpet shops to have a traditional mint tea as you watch an enthusiastic sales presentation.

If you are into horses, you might like a ride along the beach. Here´s a link to a good ride: https://getyourguide.tpk.mx/yUGB9K6v
If you are into quad biking you might like a trip into the countryside to do just that, - here´s the link to book: https://getyourguide.tpk.mx/Uql0Xnd4
You may want to rent a car in Tunisia. One company which offers total coverage with no deposit needed can be found at: https://www.3a-rentcar.com/en/blog/tunisia-car-rental-guide.php If you do hire a car, make sure you don´t use it on tracks off the surfaced road, especially in the Sahara desert, or you may damage the car and find the insurance does not cover it. If you prefer not to drive, you can still see most of the main sights by taking tours from the various cities you stay in. We will be recommending some of these tours.
From Hammamet there are three places you should definitely visit. One is Korbous where you can experience the Ain Atrous hot springs and excellent fish prepared in the many fish restaurants in the village.

A great 9 hour trip to Korbous also includes a UNESCO heritage site called Kerkouane and a fortress at Kelibia, a quaint fishing village, all on the Cap Bon area of Tunisia. To book click here:

Next, we visit Nabeul, a town famous for its pottery. We loved the pretty designs and had we not been flying home, would have filled up the car with these beautiful creations. Nabeul is also a town known for its camels. The picture below shows a camel exhibiting.

A fun 4 hour tour from Hammamet to Nabeul includes also a visit to Nabeul´s famous animal park. Here´s a link to reserve:

Our next trip from Hammamet is El Haouria, a town known for its falconry. Try and view a falconry demonstration while you are there. We loved seeing the birds dive down from high above at great speed and swoop away with the tiny piece of meat they had seen. Impressive to say the least and a very Arabian experience.

To visit El Haouria from Hammamet, take a taxi for the day. Ask your hotel to recommend one. It should not cost more than about 80 euros. You can specify the driver needs to speak English and that he will help you with things such as finding a falconer willing to give you a private demonstration. For that they may be able to help you in The Falcon Lounge, a nice restaurant on the Route Sephamore on the way out of El Haouria. Whilst at El Haouria some local very ancient punic caves are worth a visit.
